What to buy at Better Food: Organic eggs.
Harefield Farm have been rearing organic layers and producing superb organic eggs since 2004 in their ample fields in Wiltshire. Rearing from day-old chicks, farmer Andrew Jackson believes that chicks should be encouraged to free range from the outset so that as adults they’ll take full advantage of the extensive outdoor space at Haresfield, and be able to enjoy the benefit of scratching about in the farm-grown forage crops. Andrew uses a mixture of Lohman Brown and Bovans Brown – a combination perfectly adapted to life outdoors in the West Country.
Mission and values: Organic standards are at the heart of Haresfield’s way of farming. This is demonstrated not only in the care of their hens – prioritising their health and welfare and creating an environment which promotes completely natural behaviour – but also in the care of the land, which is farmed on rotation to keep the soil naturally healthy.
Location: Stanton St. Quinton, SN14 (20.9 miles to Better Food)

We love them because… Andrew’s approach to farming is reassuringly simple, recognising that when health, wellbeing and nature are put first, good eggs are sure to follow.
