Heart of BS13
What to buy at Better Food: Delicious meals lovingly created right here in Bristol, every one helping to support households in Bristol experiencing food and fuel poverty, and stunning, local, seasonal cut flowers grown in a chemical-free and no-dig environment.
Heart of BS13 is a social enterprise based in South Bristol, working to improve health, wellbeing and the local environment through enterprise, volunteer opportunities, workshops and support programmes.
Heart of BS13 Kitchen produces a tasty range of chef-produced, vegan and vegetarian frozen meals, packed full of fresh produce, including fruit, veg and herbs grown in the social enterprise’s own Kitchen Garden. Ready to pop in the oven and enjoy, each meal has been designed with flavour, health, and balance in mind. Every meal purchased ‘pays forward’ to support a household of four in BS13 to have delicious, high-quality food choices plus additional professional support to tackle the challenges they face, helping to address not just the immediate effects of food insecurity, but the root causes too.
Heart of BS13 Garden grow seasonal flowers, herbs and veg from two sites in the centre of Hartcliffe and Withywood, supported by volunteers and trainees from the community. They use a chemical-free, no-dig approach to rebuild and preserve soil health. In colder months, look out for gorgeous, everlasting dried bouquets and seasonal wreaths.
Mission and values: To improve health, wellbeing and the local environment through outreach programmes, and sustainable, local, chemical-free production; and to reduce food poverty by selling quality meals to the people of Bristol, while supporting struggling families to eat well in BS13.

We love them because… Already won over by their flavour-packed, home-style meals and elegant bouquets, what really drew us to Heart of BS13 is the real impact they’re making in the local environment and local community.
Did you know? Our catering team has joined forces with Heart of BS13 to move one step closer to closing the loop. Uncooked food waste from our kitchens is sent to their site, where it’s turned into high quality compost used to grow their vegetables and flowers, which in turn end up back on our shelves as meals and bouquets!
