Jane Chong and Jane Kippax—both mothers of children with Down Syndrome and both passionate about good food—founded Step and Stone to begin to address the gap in employment opportunities for young people with learning disabilities. From their premises in Knowle, the two Janes lead a team in making lavosh flatbreads—packed full of flavour, beautifully packaged and perfect for developing baking skills in young people facing challenges in finding employment elsewhere.
Mission and values: Step and Stone are at heart a social enterprise, creating opportunities for young people who are isolated from the workplace and often from society, and helping them into paid employment. But behind their social mission, their products support the best local suppliers, using predominantly organic ingredients, Gloucestershire flour and Somerset rapeseed oil to make their delicious, vegan lavosh.
