What to buy at Better Food: A wide range of Tony’s Chocolonely bars in wonderful flavours alongside seasonal treats
Tony’s Chocolonely are making big changes in the chocolate industry. Things aren’t being shared evenly in the chocolate supply chain. The chain starts with millions of farmers who produce cocoa and ends with the billions of consumers who enjoy chocolate. The middle of the supply chain is dominated by a handful of chocolate giants that profit from keeping the price of cocoa as low as possible. As a result, farmers are forced to live in poverty. And that leads to illegal child labour and modern slavery.
Tony’s follow 5 sourcing principles to ensure long-term fairness in the supply chain; traceable cocoa beans, paying a premium to market price on the beans they buy, working closely with farmers and cooperatives to structurally change inequality for the better, giving farmers and cooperatives a five year commitment at a higher price, investing to improve quality and productivity.
Mission and values: To make 100% slave free the norm in chocolate.
We love them because… they are challenging the norm for the cocoa industry and implementing practices that could change the lives of thousands of farmers. The chocolate tastes incredible too!
