Health & Bodycare
The health, bodycare and cosmetics industry is particularly susceptible to ‘greenwashing’, with many brands giving the appearance of being natural or organic, whilst still using ingredients that are controversial or artificially produced. We champion brands that source their ingredients responsibly and produce high quality products that are not only good for people, but better for the planet too.
In our sourcing
We avoid controversial ingredients
In our health & bodycare range, we prioritise products that have been certified organic or natural by trusted certification bodies. By doing this, we’ve greatly reduced the presence of controversial ingredients in the products that we sell. We look closely at the ingredients of all new products, and take steps to ensure that the most controversial ingredients do not make their way on to our shelves.
We source responsibly
In line with policies across our grocery range, we also take steps to ensure that the raw ingredient of our health & bodycare products are responsibly sourced, especially those that are imported and whose supply chains and production methods are often open to exploitation. We choose suppliers who help us reduce packaging waste
Some of the most innovative solutions to single use packaging are emerging from our health & bodycare suppliers, and we’re doing all we can to support them. Read more about our Plastics and Packaging policy (coming soon).
We showcase the best of local
Bristol and nearby counties are home to some of the best independent, natural and organic health & bodycare brands in the UK. Read about how we champion local brands in our Local Sourcing policy (coming soon).
Where we want to be
We’re confident that the high proportion of organic and natural certified products we stock, as well as our general high sourcing standards, means that controversial ingredients are kept to a minimum across much of our supply chain, whilst responsibly sourced ingredients, sustainable packaging and local businesses are championed across our range. We’re working to increase the proportion of organic or natural certified products across our range, and to seek out more and more responsible, local producers.
How are we keeping an eye on this policy and putting it into practice?
We ask all new suppliers to tell us about their certification status, as well as asking them to provide a full list of their ingredients. Our buying team prioritise organic or natural certified products, as well as keeping a close eye on industry thinking around controversial ingredients, and taking steps to reduce or eliminate them in our health & bodycare range.
