The joy of seasonal eating
Seasonal eating can come with its challenges. But that challenge comes with the chance to use your imagination, a feeling of satisfaction, and some amazing tasting meals. Plus, it might not be as hard as you think. Read on to find out why…
Celebrating the highlights
Having an awareness of which fruits and veggies are at their best and making them centre-stage in your meal is a positive and satisfying way of eating seasonally. This saves us thinking up whichever recipe our heart desires and being disappointed when the ingredients aren’t in season. So, rather than focusing on what isn’t available, try celebrating the current highlights.
Use this handy seasonal veg guide to know what is in season when! Then get thinking of what you’d like to use first.
Finding a balance
‘Eating seasonally doesn’t have to mean just eating British produce’ (Steph Wetherall, Wicked Leeks), it’s about finding a balance. It can still be sustainable to buy fruit and veg that has been imported from Europe, when well sourced, and transported by land and sea, which is what we do! So we can still get our juicy citrus fix in the depths of winter, and bring variety to the root veg months.
Our produce
We prioritise organic, but we also support local farms, some of which practice organic farming methods or regenerative farming. Some of our local fruit and veggie suppliers include Middle Ground Growers, Prior’s Grove and The Community Farm.
To maintain the variety and vibrancy of our produce shelves all year round, we also sell an abundance of fruits and veggies grown in Europe, which is no bad thing! The produce that we source from growers in Europe is never air-freighted and comes from a short and transparent supply chain. Our great relationship with our suppliers means that we can get fresh, varied fruit and veg throughout the year and still have minimal impact on the environment.
