Mulled Cider
This warming and citrusy mulled cider is the perfect recipe to keep in your back pocket as we move into the cosier months! The best thing about this recipe is that it’s easy to tailor it to your preferences. Love a sweet and syrupy drink, use a sweeter cider and add more caster sugar. Like a kick to your drink? Add your favourite brandy. Either way, it’ll taste delicious.
Mulled Cider
Ingredients:
1.5 litres cider
1 orange
10 cloves
50g mixed peel
3 cinnamon sticks (or 3 tsp ground)
½ nutmeg (grated)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 apple
50ml of liqueur (optional), we’d suggest brandy
75g caster sugar, to taste
Method:
Pour the cider into a large pan, and place on a medium heat.
Halve your orange and squeeze the juice into the pan. Press the cloves into the flesh of the orange then add both halves to the pan. Add all of the spices, the mixed peel and vanilla.
Peel your apple and add the peel to the pan. Cut the apple flesh into cubes and also add this to the pan (these cider soaked pieces are the best bit!)
If you’re adding a liqueur, add this now, along with the sugar. Start with 75g of sugar and taste it – you can always add more if you’d like it to be sweeter.
Heat the mixture for 5-10 minutes. Then keep it warm on a low heat until you’re ready to serve it up!
